New York State Route 442 (NY 442) is a state highway located within the town of Peru in Clinton County, New York, in the United States. It is an east–west highway that connects the hamlet of Peru with the Adirondack Northway ( Interstate 87). The western terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 22 in the hamlet of Peru. Its eastern terminus is at a junction with US 9 near the shore of Lake Champlain. NY 442 was assigned in April 1970 as a town-maintained, state-numbered route. It became state-maintained in 1988. Route description NY 442 begins at an intersection with NY 22 (Main Street) in the hamlet of Peru within the town of the same name. The route heads eastward, intersecting with local roads before leaving Peru. For a brief distance, NY 442 and NY 22 parallel, but NY 22 turns to the north while NY 442 continues eastward. Au Sable Forks is a hamlet in Clinton County and Essex County, New York, United States. The northern half of the community, within Clinton County, is listed as the Au Sable Forks census-designated place (CDP) and had a population of 559 at the 2010 census. Geography Au Sable Forks is located on the border of Clinton and Essex counties at (44.444063, −73.676013), centered on the point where the West Branch and the East Branch of the Au Sable River join to form the main confluence which flows into Au Sable Chasm and thence, into Lake Champlain. Ausable Chasm
Ausable Chasm is a sandstone gorge and tourist attraction located near the hamlet of Keeseville, New York, United States. It is directly due west of Port Kent. The Ausable River runs through it and then empties into Lake Champlain. The gorge is about long and is a tourist attraction in the Adirondacks region of Upstate New York. It is fed by the Rainbow Falls at its southern extreme. Geological formation Geologically simple, the Ausable Gorge was carved out of 500 million-year-old Potsdam Sandstone from the Cambrian Period.
